Fort Wayne, Ind. — Easterseals Arc of Northeast Indiana has been awarded a grant of $1,200 from the HEALing Initiative, a partnership of Parkview Health and St. Joseph Community Health Foundation, to support a six- to eight-week cooking class for individuals with disabilities.
Easterseals Arc will host the class at its hospitality learning lab using the Our HEALing Kitchen curriculum. The class will serve 10 adults with intellectual or developmental disabilities enrolled in Easterseals Arc’s day programs.
Our HEALing Kitchen is a “garden-to-kitchen” curriculum that provides knowledge and skill-building to increase fruit and vegetable selection, preparation, and consumption. This curriculum places emphasis on locally grown food and the benefits of eating a diet that is rich in fresh fruits and vegetables and low in saturated fats, sugars, and processed foods.
To culminate the class, Easterseals Arc will host a celebration meal planned, organized and prepared by participants for families and community members.
