Angola, Ind. — The Steuben County Community Foundation has awarded a $15,000 grant to Easterseals RISE in support of the agency’s e-gaming initiatives.
Easterseals is leading the way in incorporating gaming into programming for people with disabilities as part of the nationwide ES Gaming initiative, and the grant will help implement the initiative in Steuben County.
The program will use gaming platforms to enhance participants’ academic performance and workforce readiness by teaching skills in leadership, communication, critical thinking, team building, cognitive acuity, and technology. These transferable skills enhance work readiness while creating opportunities for fun and socialization.
As part of the program, Trine University students will work with gaming teams as mentors and coaches. In addition, a gaming trailer that can accommodate up to 24 gamers will travel to schools and other community venues to create a fun and inclusive place for people to connect and play together.
