AWS Foundation has awarded a $12,500 grant to Easterseals Arc of Northeast Indiana to support the Fort Wayne Abilities Collaborative in providing inclusive social and sensory friendly events.
The Fort Wayne Abilities Collaborative includes Easterseals Arc, YMCA of Greater Fort Wayne, Camp Red Cedar and Turnstone. The organizations formed the collaboration to improve opportunities for individuals with disabilities to increase community integration, social interaction, recreation and physical activity.
The grant funds will help the collaborative offer 13 inclusive sensory friendly events and socials by the end of 2022. The planned events include:
- Two summer splash bash socials
- Two sensory friendly movie nights
- Two teen takeovers
- Two teen socials
- Two outdoor movie nights
- Three adult fall socials
Participants at the events will have opportunities for increased social engagement, interaction with peers with and without disabilities, and knowledge of community resources.
